2007 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase
Nicholas Valek is a 2010 C/IF with a 5'8'', 140 lb. frame from Mechanicsburg, PA who attends Cumberland Valley HS. He has a young body with some developing strength. Valek showed very good arm strength behind the plate for a young catcher, throwing 75 mph during drills and making accurate, strong throws during the games. His release and arm stroke are long and he tends to drop his elbow when throwing, both factors in his relatively high pop times (best 2.22). Valek's overall catching actions are pretty good, he receives the ball well and stays compact and quick. He should keep developing defensively. Valek was a contact hitter at the plate and showed some bat head skills and the ability to make contact. He hit the ball to all fields and made adjustments at the plate while keeping his swing short. More strength will make a big difference with Valek's offensive game. He is a very good student.
