KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Rae Salyer is a 5'8. class of 2024, 3B/C from Overland Park, KS who attends Shawnee Mission South HS. Rae is one of those elite, special kind of players that screams unquestioned talent and absolute, high level, college potential. Rae is a very rare player that only comes along once in a while. It is hard to know where to start and what to prioritize when evaluating or describing her ability. And. she is only a HS sophomore! She is a multi-position player and shows elite ability on the dirt and behind the plate. She will, unquestionably, play on defense where her club needs her. She is THAT talented. She took a turn on the IF and showed quite well. Quick feet lead to confident and easy positioning. Advanced glove work. Elite 61-mph arm strength. All throws are noticeably firm, hold their plane, and are spot on accurate. College level! She is a different kind of prospect - in a good way - behind the plate. Finding an elite, college ready catcher is a tough get for many programs. In Rae, college coaches won't have far to look. As good as she was on the IF, she may just be a tick better behind the plate. Low profile at the ready. Soft hands that receive the ball well. 55-mph arm strength that plays up and an unreal 1.88 pop time, which is elite for even the very best collegiate players, that is eye-popping and verified by more than one timing. Really elite stuff here! Rae completes her projectability with an unreal and truly admirable presence at the plate. She gets it. Like many elite hitters, she can handle the bat and is a comfortable bunter. She probably won't be called upon for her short game, however. She is going to be a run producer. Balanced at the ready she has a strong lower half that she knows how to use. She coils a little and creates great torque. She has a quick trigger and is short and direct to contact. She has a flatter path and has more of a line-drive heavy approach. She impacts the ball with force and it jumps from her barrel. She has definite power potential and that will evolve eventually, but her current approach is really sound and refined. Wow! As she gains even more strength and she is exposed to the most elite competition, Rae is going to draw attention from just about every collegiate program, big and small, in the land. Yes, she is THAT good. Unlimited ceiling! Outstanding promise! Big time prospect!
