Alston Morrell is a 2020 SS/C, 2B with a 5-8 140 lb. frame from Lakeland, FL who attends Santa Fe Catholic. Small and skinny frame with present athleticism and more room to fill moving forward. Ran a 7.47 second 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, smooth actions to the baseball with footwork that plays nicely into gather, could continue to work on gaining momentum to his target, hands are clean out in front with a smooth funnel into body, actions are smooth but the arm strength is still developing, when everything comes together it should be a nice product. Secondary catcher, narrow starting position, quick and clean transfer from mitt to hand, releases out in front but could work on releasing more out over front side, 2.19 second best pop time. Righthanded hitter, weight sits on backside, could utilize lower half weight shift into swing for additional bat speed, inside hand path to the ball with a line drive barrel plane, upper half dominant swing that showcased bat to ball skills, worked to all fields during his round of batting practice. Outstanding student.
