Sam Batis is a 2021 RHP/3B, SS, OF with a 6-1 189 lb. frame from Clarksburg, MD who attends Clarksburg High School. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong, advanced frame for age, strength throughout build. Ran a 5.37 40-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, begins delivery with a side step moving into a high leg lift at balance point, deliberate mechanics, slight pause at top before breaking into a full arm action and reaching a high three-quarters release point. Worked on top of the ball well and ran fastball up to 81 mph, velocity continued to tick upwards throughout time on mound. Curveball showed 11-5 to it at 66 mph, offered some bite to the bottom of the zone. Fields the ball out front in the infield, extra steps moving into release, shorter arm action and gets on top well, shows accuracy across, longer strides going up the middle and maintained balance on the charge. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing and does a nice job of striding on line into contact. Upper body dominant swing, incorporates physical strength well and shows leverage to swing path. Quick barrel and can turn on the pitch well, worked pull side with comfort, solid line drive contact off the barrel when squared with jump. Named to Northeast Indoor Top Prospect List. Very good student.
