Gene Kolarik is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-7 235 lb. frame from Crown Point, IN who attends Crown Point HS. Extra-large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned well throughout frame. Primary righthanded pitcher, short side step moving into delivery, utilizes a hip turn at top of balance point while getting tall on backside with some gather. Strides on line down mound and shows a full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 86 mph and shows ability to generate plane when on top of the ball, mostly true in life, gets mistimed occasionally through the back side. Flashed curveball with 11-5 shape up to 74 mph, pitched mostly off of fastball in this look. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and loads hands back at start of swing. Utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing and gets closed at point of contact; full swing path through the zone and incorporates physical strength well, shows jump off the barrel when squared.
