Evan Baschnagel is a 2023 2B/RHP, C, SS, MIF, OF with a 5-10 140 lb. frame from Garden City, NY who attends Chaminade. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, projectable build with room to add strength throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.59 60-yard dash. Primary second baseman, fields the ball out front and gathers well behind it, longer strides ranging up the middle, shows athleticism to actions, longer release and strides open with lower half when throwing, works on top of throws and shows ability to drop slot. Also pitched, side step moving into medium leg lift with hip coil at top; compact arm action in the back and through release working to a high three-quarters release point. Short stride but on line with drop and drive mechanics; fastball topped out at 73 mph, natural cut to the pitch and showed tight rotation on curveball with 11-5 shape up to 63 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and medium hand set; utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Does a nice job of staying short to the ball with path and direct with hands. Comfort working to pull side with steady contact there, shows jump off the barrel when squared, has tools on offensive to build off moving forward. Very good student.
