Chase Hughes is a 2019 1B/RHP with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Conway, SC who attends Carolina Forest High School. Tall frame, some build to him, primary first baseman, graded out better as a pitcher. From first base, two handed fielder, some arm strength, 78 mph on throws to third, long arm action, good footwork, fields the ball cleanly, accurate throws across the diamond, showed off athleticism on tough plays. From the mound, easy throwing motion, fastball topped out at 82 mph, fastball showed arm side run. Good tempo to delivery, slider has some depth and right to left movement, good gloveside mechanics, curveball showed depth and sharpness, curveball had good 11/5 movement. Does a good job mixing speeds and keeping hitters off balance, general idea on changing looks and holds in the stretch. Offensively, high hand set, high back elbow, good barrel impact, wide stance, toe tap for timing, ball has carry off the bat, showed some bat speed, mechanical load, hips present in swing. Outstanding student.
