Evan Veal is a 2018 SS/RHP, 3B, OF with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Hoover, AL who attends Hoover High School. Medium build and frame, athleticism, and room to continue to fill out physically and add strength. Posted an impressive 6.70 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, showed quick twitch actions with very soft, sure hands. Throws showed good carry with a clean first step and overall fluid actions. Moved well on the run with a strong arm up to 88 mph. Also worked out from the outfield, showed a strong arm with a fluid transfer and tremendous carry to the bases with a top velocity of 89 mph. At the plate, started with a wide base, open stance, high hand set, and a leg lift timing mechanism. Line drive swing plane with a clean hand path and raw bat speed. Worked up the middle and to pull side gap with strength through the point of contact. Inconsistent at times, but flashed barrel feel. Also pitched, stayed tall on back side, long arm action, closed landing, crossfire element, and threw from a low three quarter arm slot. Utilized some deception with a deeper hip turn at balance point with a fastball that worked 80-84 mph. Worked only off fastball and needs to work on keeping pitch low in the zone. Very good student. Named to Top Prospect List.
