Joseph Phelps is a 2019 RHP/MIF, OF, UT with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Los Angeles, CA who attends Loyola HS. Recorded a 7.24 second 60-yard dash time. Medium frame and build with present athleticism and room to fill out the lean frame. Primary righthanded pitcher with a small side step into a medium leg lift delivery. Creates coil over the back leg and lands online while carrying momentum downhill well. Loose arm stroke and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball comes out of the hand clean with some running life and topped out at 85 mph. Curveball had 12/6 shape with tight spin and sharp, late break. Good feel for spin and will pitch backwards and double up. Maintains arm speed on the changeup with good pitchability overall. Arm strength plays nicely from the infield and shows clean, athletic actions too. Righthanded hitter with a narrow, upright stance. Loads on the backside well with a deeper hand load and direct path to contact. Lofts the barrel nicely. Good student. Named to the 2018 West Academic Showcase Top Prospect List.
