2022 Hawaii Workout Showcase (Aug. 10)
Laakea Correa is a 2025 LHP/1B with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Ewa Beach, HI. Nice young athletic build with good present strength and room for more. Has a compact delivery and good direction to the plate, over the top release slot, hides the ball well in back, repeats his mechanics. Worked consistently in the upper 70's with his fastball, has a heavy fastball with good life down in the zone. Showed a nice change up with good arm speed and late sinking action. Also threw a short curveball with 1/7 shape. Pounded the zone with all three pitches and showed good feel for pitching. 7.50 runner in the sixty. Was very athletic at first base on defense, aggressive to the ball with solid mechanics and plenty of arm strength, looks plenty athletic enough to play the outfield as well. Left handed hitter, hits from a spread stance with a small stride into contact, has a short and strong swing with good bat speed, showed strength at contact and some jump off the barrel. Two-way prospect. Good student. Named to the Hawaii Workout Showcase Top Prospect List.
