2006 Northeast Top Prospect Showcase
Greg Hopkins is a 2007 SS with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Mansfield MA, who attends Bishop Feehan HS. He has a strong, athletic body with good life and easy actions. Hopkins plays a smooth shortstop, he moves to the ball well and gets rid of it quickly and with little effort. His arm works smoothly and his throws have good carry without his having to set himself to throw. Hopkins looks like the kind of athlete who can play shortstop at the next level. Offensively, Hopkins hits from a balanced, no stride stance with a quick, smooth swing and an extended finish. He shows the ability to move the bat head around and make solid contact to all fields. Hopkins is a 7.10 runner with a good first step. There really isn't a tool that stands out with this young prospect but he does everything well and his smooth athleticism gives him nice projection. Keep a close eye on him, he could come on well over the next few years. Hopkins is a very good student and is committed to St. John's.
