KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Coty Engle is a 5'4, class of 2023 SS/RHP, MIF, OF, UT from Fairfield, IA who attends Fairfield HS. Coty is an upper class player who shows playable, projectable skill at more than one position. She ran a 3.31 20-yard dash that included a 1,20 5-yard split. Coty showed solid work in the outfield. Her feet work well and her ability to position is easy and routine. Her glove is smooth and she plays through the fielding action with some momentum. Her transition is consistent and her strong arm produces 56-mph throws that hold their plane and are regularly accurate. Solid effort! Coty also took a turn in the circle, and although this is not her primary position she showed a fine feel for this all too tough position. She is a max effort hurler with an ability to routinely repeat her operation. She gets noticeable extension on her pitches and she relies on plus command and control rather than raw velocity. She has a feel for how to pitch. She shows a three pitch mix. Her drop has noticeable spin and has some explosive down action. she works this pitch mostly to the arm side. Her change up has a drop component to it that is obviously purposeful. She tries to bury this pitch on the plate. Solid action pitch. Her rise ball has some solid carry and late jump. It doesn't carry a lot of velo but the cation is sound. Might not be a college pitcher, because she will probably be more important as a position player, but she could get a team out of innings. Gritty competitor. At the plate, this RHH has a smooth and consistent operation. She does show a sound feel for the short game and can handle the bunt aspect. She has a smooth offensive operation. she shows a consistent flat path and a middle of the field concept. She is a contact first swinger and has a plus feel for the barrel. There is some present gap-to-gap pop and a hint that power is emerging which would really change her game. Currently, Coty is a solid hitter with a great plan. She executes her swing well and makes routine solid contact. Sound approach. Coty is on her way to playing at the next level. She can play defense and has a great swing operation. With continued work on her already sound game over the course of her last couple of years of HS and travel ball, she certainly will have the chance to play at the next level. Polished and poised approach. Big upside potential!
