Melvyn Alvarez is a 2021 OF/RHP with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Guayama, PR who attends Vocacional Maria Socorro Lacot. Medium frame with an athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength. Primary outfielder with smooth, fluid footwork while traveling to the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange well. Loose arm circle at separation and released from an extended three-quarters slot. Throws created accurate, online carry to the bag topping at 80 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Clean, compact hand path to baseball with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Displayed balance throughout swing while employing a mid field approach. Also pitched utilizing a side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays flexed on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball generated occasional downhill tilt through the zone in the low 70's, topped at 73 mph. Curveball had 10/5 shape with tighter spin and good depth when located to the bottom of the zone.
