2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Chris Skinner is a 2006 INF from Del Mar HS, residing in San Jose, CA, with a 6'1", 160 lb. frame. He is recovering from a lower leg injury that happened in Spring 2005 (he now has a titanium rod in his lower right leg). Skinner showed his toughness and love of playing by competing well, even at less than his best. He has intriguing baseball athleticism and the liveliness in his long, lanky body suggests that he will develop into a quality player when he makes a full recovery. Skinner has a loose, lively, and long arm that could translate nicely to the mound. That same arm stroke could limit the plays he can complete at shortstop position. He does have a nice defensive set-up and shows good defensive instincts, with fairly sticky hands. From an upright and square stance Skinner shows good bat speed with some life. By adding some flexion in his lower half and opening his hips a bit, his hands will work better to the ball on the inner half. He has an overall aggressive approach, both at the plate and in the field. Skinner is an excellent student and would be a good JC follow if he goes that route.
