Anthony Williams is a 2008 right hand hitting catcher/outfielder from J. Serra HS, residing in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. He has a 6'2" 185 lb. frame and a physical body, with big, long legs. He has a strong lower half and a rangy upper half. Williams has a chance to really come on in the next year. Offensively he showed good bat speed and the ball came off his bat well. His swing is sort of like a Mike Piazza type of swing if that helps paint a picture of his inside out stroke. His approach to the ball is quite good and he does a nice job of finishing his swing. Williams stays behind the ball and has good barrel lag. His approach allows him to let the ball travel and he shows power potential to all fields. He is quite an interesting hitting prospect and should be followed closely. Defensively he showed a long arm stroke in the outfield, with some arm strength. He is an accurate thrower and would do well in left field. Behind the plate he flashed the ability to be a good catch/throw backstop. He has coachable raw tools and with his offensive potential, it might be a wise idea to see how far Williams can develop as a catcher. His bat right now is the most playable tool and the tool that has the most future upside. D1 programs should put him on their follow lists and see him again this coming summer. He looks like a pretty good hitting prospect who may bring power to the catching position.
