Andres "Aj" Herrera is a 2022 C/UT with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Mesa, AZ who attends Highland. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, higher set behind the plate during drills, gains some ground with lower half coming out, receives the ball out front and works into a shorter arm action, showed well in game action with quickness behind plate while blocking, shows accuracy on throws to second base. Fields the ball out front well in the infield, picks it well with glove, can quicken actions, shows carry on throws across the diamond and nice footwork going up the middle. Switch-hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; stays shorter to the ball and keeps hands inside throughout, works on a linear plane, contact oriented approach. Lefthanded, starts with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow; utilizes a short leg lift trigger for timing, shorter path through the zone, bat speed will continue to develop, compact throughout swing. Very good student.
