Ethan Payne is a 2022 C/3B, SS, OF with a 5-9 158 lb. frame from San Jose, CA who attends Bellarmine College Prep. Medium frame with a lean build showing some room to fill out physically in the future. Ran a 7.19 second sixty yard dash. Primary Catcher, sitting down in his stance with the right foot slightly further back. Athletic in his actions with flexibility showing in the lower half. Glove work showing as he proved he could frame the baseball. Quick transfers on throw downs as he gained ground and released online. Accurate throws to the bag as he recorded a pop time of 2.00 seconds during drills. Fundamentally sound and projects here going forward. Right-Handed Hitter, starting spread out and open with the front side while balanced. Knee to knee load with high hands before throwing hands at the baseball. Slightly downhill swing path as the hands come from a high point. Generates bat speed and proved he could impact out front. Drove the baseball back up the middle while also showing he could go the other way. Power in the gaps present when he got extended. Good Student.
