2018 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Will Mabrey is a 2019 LHP/OF with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Cookeville, TN who attends Upperman HS. Medium frame with a long, lean build. Primary left-handed pitcher that utilizes a very simple and balanced delivery, staying in line with home plate. Repeats delivery well with a good tempo. Has a quick arm action, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with good extension at release. Has some slight run to the fastball that stayed in the mid 80's and topped out at 85 miles per hour. Has solid feel for the changeup with some fade and sink to it. Commands both the changeup and fastball to both sides of the plate and throws them for strikes. Also has a slider with good two-plane movements to it at 69 miles per hour. Has a good knowledge on the mound, mixes pitches well and keeps batters guessing. Left-handed hitter with an upright slightly open stance. Loads with a simple leg lift trigger. Creates some linear lower half shift into contact. Short hand path to contact. Fluid, slightly lifted swing path with good extension through the ball. Selected to the 2018 Pitcher/Catcher Top Prospect List.
