Mason Engel is a 2023 2B/RHP with a 5-5 118 lb. frame from New Braunfels, TX who attends Canyon. Young lean build. Works from the first base side of the rubber with a side step delivery and good hip coil above the rubber, long arm action in back to a 3/4's arm slot. Consistent low 60's fastball with some sinking action at the plate. Slow curveball with some 12/6 downer depth at times. Threw strikes and competed on the mound. Right handed hitter, hits from a square stance with a wrapped barrel load, leg kick trigger, long and loose swing. Aggressive to the ball on defense, glove works well out front, arm strength still developing. Will improve with continued physical maturity and strength.
