Blayne Weller is a 2008 RHP from Key West HS in Key West, FL, with a 6'4'', 195 lb. frame. He has a tall, lanky body with long arms and legs and doesn't look like he's finished growing yet. Weller has a drop and drive delivery style with a long, extended arm action. He comes at hitters from a low 3/4's release point, which provides some deception to the hitters, especially if they are right handed. Weller's arm is fast and loose and he got lots of hard running action on an 84 mph fastball. Weller did an outstanding job of spotting his fastball and pitching to corners and his combination of location, velocity, movement and deception pretty much overmatched the hitters. Weller's breaking ball was a 70 mph curveball with a short but sharp 11/5 break. He had good control of his breaking ball as well. We didn't see a change up. Weller is a very nice looking young pitching prospect with a projectable body, present skills and a deceptive style. He is a very good follow who you should be hearing plenty about in the future.
