Kris Kauppila is a 2008 right hand hitting middle infielder from Crescenta Valley HS, residing in Glendale, CA. He has a 5'10" 155 lb. frame and a compact but still maturing body that has room to fill out. He is built well for the middle of the diamond. Kauppila is a skilled player who can do a lot on the field and he is fun to watch play. Offensively he showed that he has plus feel for hitting. His swing is inside out, allowing the barrel to square up at contact. His hand path is very good and he does keep the barrel in the zone, giving him a chance to hit all pitches and making him a very tough out. He keeps his body behind the ball very well and consistently was balanced and on-time at the contact point, no matter where he was pitched. Kauppila's hands are good and his body is quiet. He has a nice oppo stroke while showing the ability to spray line drives to all fields. He should hit for consistently high average and is the type of hitter that can make a huge difference in a line-up because he is so skilled. Defensively he also showed that he has plus hands and plus feel. He consistently made plays on the move adn showed the ability to make accurate throws, even when he was wrong footed. His release is quick and he has a baseball clock. Kauppila takes good angles to the ball and has a good first step, making his range better than his raw speed. He is the type of infielder/player that plays above his raw tools. Consider Kauppila a D1 prospect. He can simply play the game and he is the type of player that helps a team win every day.
