2018 PG Top Prospect Games at Maryland
Kyras Dawson is a 2019 OF/RHP with a 6-2 167 lb. frame from Silver Spring, MD who attends St. Johns College. Large, athletic frame with narrow shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Primary outfielder, moves well on feet with short steps and circles the ball nicely, fields out front and works into a deep arm action through t he back, works to an over-the top release point and shows carry out of hand with accuracy to the bag. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery with a higher leg lift while getting tall on backside; similar full arm action with an over-the-top release, creates extension out front and can continue to implement additional lower half. Fastball topped out at 84 mph and showed cutting life, projects for more velocity. Curveball shows 11-5 shape and had comfort throwing for strikes while working down in zone; changeup flashed fading life at 76 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; upper body dominant swing, gets to front side early on occasion but shows looseness to hands with a full swing path through the zone. Creates best contact when working with a linear stroke, shows handle of the barrel and carry when squared, best comfort hitting to his pull side. Good student.
