Davis Downey is a 2019 3B/RHP with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Durham, NC who attends C E Jordan High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to frame with additional room to fill. Ran a 7.94 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, takes short steps moving towards the ball, hands play out front well at the ball and utilizes a clean exchange, sound glove skills, extra step into release, compact arm action on throws across, accurate to first base and shows carry on the ball. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch; stays short through the back while working to a submarine arm slot. Lands closed with front side, creates short sinking life on fastball, topped out at 68 mph, pitched to contact and worked quickly on the mound. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box; uses a small leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Works with a short and direct swing path through the zone, stays linear to the ball and handles the barrel well through the zone. Repeats well and performed in live action with bat, shows occasional lift with back spin to pull side. Very good student.
