Matthew Tempone is a 2019 C/1B with a 6-1 205 lb. frame from Smithtown, NY who attends Smithtown East. Primary catcher with a large frame and physical build, 7.28 runner in the 60. Shows a quick transfer and on line release on throws to second. Gains ground well showing a solid arm with accuracy and carry to the bases. Left-handed hitter with a wide and slightly open stance in the box. High back elbow lends to solid barrel turn with slight weight transfer into contact. Has lift in the swing path and shows present raw power to both sides of the field. Bat speed is solid and he demonstrates the ability to square the ball consistently with a power approach at the plate. Gets inside the ball well and resists early rollover by staying through the ball to all fields. Good student.
