Brayden Smalley is a 2022 1B/LHP with a 6-1 230 lb. frame from Weatherford, TX who attends Trinity Christian Academy. Large, broad shouldered build with present strength proportioned throughout frame, incorporates strength well into game. Ran a 8.47 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front, takes longer strides coming off the bag, will continue to refine footwork, gets tall at release, shorter arm action on throws across the diamond, gets on top of throws. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch. Leg lift up to belt, gets tall on backside well during gather, stays short through the back and works to a high three-quarters release point, shorter and on line stride down the mound. Gets mistimed occasionally at release, fastball topped out at 68 mph, mostly true in life with occasional sink down; flashed a 1-7 shaped curveball, pitched to contact. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a narrow stance and a medium hand set and low back elbow at the plate. Full swing path through the zone, looks to impact the baseball at point of contact. Shows leverage to path and able to elevate the ball out front, loud contact off the barrel when squared with carry, occasionally mistimed but found the barrel in live action.
