Nathan Hopkins is a 2019 LHP/1B, OF with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Apple Valley, CA who attends Granite Hills. Medium frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a smooth paced rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands in line with front side and carries momentum well through finish. Shorter take back and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed occasional downward plane through the zone with some run to arm side, topped at 73 miles per hour. Curveball had 1/7 shape with loose spin and solid depth when staying on top of offering at extension. Also flashed a changeup with slight wiggle to arm side in the mid 50's. Maintained tempo and balanced throughout delivery and consistently looked to fill the strike zone with all three pitches. Also worked out defensively from first base showing aggressive footwork while centering the baseball. Clean glove actions with developing fluidity while working through transition. Long arm circle at separation and released from a high three-quarters slot topping at 71 miles per hour across the infield. Switch hitter with a spread, even stance and simple front side trigger. Loose path to contact with a level plane from each side. Consistently worked to the middle of the field from each side of the plate but flashed better feel for the barrel from the right side of the plate. Outstanding student.
