Kyle Johnson is a 2018 C/ with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Oakdale, MN who attends North. Medium frame with an athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintain athleticism. Primary catcher with a low, slightly side set stance while setting up to receive the baseball. Gains some ground to the base with smooth paced footwork. Clean, loose glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Released from a compact arm slot from the ear and generated some on line carry to the bag topping at 72 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.15. Primary right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and high back elbow set. Lower half works to contact with rotational actions generating some shift. Flashed solid hand quickness through the zone on a line drive plane through extension. When balanced, showed the ability to turn the barrel to contact and produce hard contact to pull side. Projects for additional bat speed and strength with continued refinement of lower half. Outstanding student as well.
