Caden Laird is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-2 235 lb. frame from Kountze, TX who attends Kountze HS. Large frame power pitchers build, strong lower half that he uses well. Maintains good driveline to the plate and shows some hand speed through a high 3/4 arm slot while hiding the ball well before reaching an extended release point out in front. Fastball sits in the low 80's, topping at 83 mph, and shows some riding life in the strike zone and is mostly straight. Curveball has 11/5 shape, with tight rotation and late down action. Plays below the ball well at first base, shows solid glove skills, a smooth transition to throw and solid arm strength. Made accurate throws to start double-plays. Shows strength at the plate from an upright stance and a high back elbow set up. Pure power approach, aggressive swing that looks to get the ball out in front and to the pull side, shows solid weight transfer and future power potential with improved timing. Solid student.
