Brandon Smith is a 2020 C/3B, IF with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from El Cajon, CA who attends Grossmont. Smith has a medium sized frame with some thickness and strength. Defensively he has a low set up behind the plate with flexibility. Smith gains ground well on his pop throws and stays low through release. He showed developing arm strength up to 70 MPH and showed some accuracy. Smith also worked out on the infield and showed clean transfers with developing actions. At the plate he starts with a square stance with a balanced set up. He has a high back elbow and uses a simple leg lift trigger to start his swing. He has an inside out approach and showed good extension in his swing to the middle of the field. Smith has some bat speed and strength in his swing. With a few adjustments to his approach he could really develop his hit tool. Very good student.
