Garrett Abeel is a 2017 LHP/1B with a 6-4 195 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Vandegrift. Extra-large, athletic frame with square shoulders, long limbs, and physical strength to frame, plenty of room to still fill throughout. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, shows good presence and demeanor on mound. Clean arm action coming through the back working to a high three-quarters release point, lands closed with strike foot and works across body at release. Landing helps create cut action to fastball, topped out at 80 mph with some extension out front, projects with additional lower half incorporated into drive to plate. Nice feel for curveball, shows 1-7 shape with short depth when on top, flashed straight changeup at 73 mph. Similar full arm action from first base, shows quickness to arm with carry out of hand and a tighter release, shows athleticism. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base in the box and a high hand set. Carries hands lower through swing, front side opens early at times but shows some strength at point of contact, uses a toe tap trigger for timing, short path to the ball with line drive contact coming off the barrel, uses physical strength well. Excellent student.
