Jay Jones is a 2018 OF/LHP with a 6-1 190 lb. frame from Madison, AL who attends Sparkman High School. Medium build with a strong, compact frame and present strength already. Posted a 7.01 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary outfielder, moved well to the ball with athletic actions working primarily through his upper half with developing accuracy. At the plate, started open with a simple stride to the ball. Swung with intent to drive the ball with inconsistent timing and an approach that worked the opposite field. Barrel was in good position at launch and improved timing would lead to more consistent results. Also pitched, long arm action from a mid three quarter arm slot with some extension and finish towards the plate. Worked around the zone with his fastball at 78-80 mph showing sinking action that worked tough on left handed hitters. Also showed a deceptive changeup at 74 mph with sink and fade with replicated arm speed. Very good student.
