Matthew Newell is a 2016 RHP with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Aldie, VA who attends John Champe HS. Long and lean frame with wiry strength at present, body projects very well moving forward. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.41 seconds. Primary pitcher, works with a very loose and easy arm action that projects well. Gets online in his delivery and stays balanced throughout, could stand to utilize lower half a bit more in delivery and drive downhill with more authority. Gets up to high three quarters slot and gets on top of the ball effectively, generates good plane to the plate. FB worked 76-78 with good sinking and running action. Quality feel for CB with 10/4 sweeping action and good depth. Good athlete off the mound as well. Shows good ability to field cleanly at 1B and make necessary movements to throw to 2B and 3B. Hits with toe tap trigger from open stance, pull-field approach, upper-half swing with some hand quickness. Projects best moving forward on the mound.
