2016 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Gage Burkhart is a 2016 RHP/2B with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Davenport, IA who attends West HS. Medium frame with a leam, athletic build. Right handed pitcher with a narrow, tall set on the mound. Compact arm circle at seperation with a mid three quarters arm slot at release. Drops and drives to the plate with solid downhill angle. Fastball shows good donwhill angle with arm side run. Developed more run on fastball in later innings. Curveball had loose spin with solid depth. Deceptive arm speed with change up that matched fastball action. Change up had fading actions with sink. Velocity picked up in later innings after settling in. Good athlete coming off the mound. Good command with the fastball, change up combo. Was able to move each to the edges of the plate in postive and negative counts. Right handed hitter with a slightly open stance and high back elbow set. Solid hand quickness to contact with a compact, line drive swing plane. Flashes barrel control that allows for contact to all fields. Best contact comes on pitches outer half that allows for extension through contact. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity.
