2015 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Hunter Barnes is a 2016 RHP/MIF, OF with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Angier, NC who attends Harnett Central. Medium, athletic frame with lean build throughout and good projection remaining on frame. Primary pitcher, shows drop and drive mechanics with solid lower half utilization; hooks arm in back of arm circle, gets up to 3/4 slot with easy release. FB worked 77-81 with good arm side run, pounded bottom of the zone to both sides with FB and did good job of getting weak contact. Shows ability to sink the FB as well, making it tough to square up. Showed slider in high 60's with good, late vertical action and quality spin. Commanded both pitches well and held velocity throughout outing. Hits with lower hand set and slightly hunched over stance, has some fluidity in swing, line drive swing plane with good square ability, made consistent contact to all fields. Worked out defensively in the OF, good first step, aggressive movement to the ball with clean fielding actions, throws accurately to target with OF velocity up to 80 MPH. Very good student.
