Eric Schmitz is a 2007 RHP/MIF with a 6'0'', 150 lb. frame from Malone WI, who attends Fond du Lac HS. He has a slender young build and minimal present strength. Schmitz has a long, loose arm action in back and gets to his front side with his lower half quickly and aggressively, which leaves his arm lagging behind often. He has a tight 3/4's release and stays on line to the plate. Schmitz's fastball was 81-83 in Cedar Rapids but we've seen him up to 87 mph this spring and his fastball has good life in the zone. He wraps his curveball some in back but gets good spin and bite on it at 71 mph. Because of his slender and young frame and his quick arm, it's best to look at Schmitz more like a 2008 type player in terms of projection. Keep an eye on him, he could come on. Schmitz is also a very good student.
