James Russell is a 2023 OF/1B with a 5-5 110 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends Lassiter. Small and young frame with room to fill and time to do so. Ran an 8.59 second 60 yard dash. Primary outfielder, moves to the baseball with short steps, crow hops into release creating uphill carry to his target, lets the baseball go from a extended 3/4 arm slot, developing arm strength currently. Secondary first baseman, fields the baseball with low effort actions out in front, compact arm action with an upright release, balance at the position and young footwork into turns to second. Also pitched, begins his delivery with a side step up to a belt high leg lift, takes arm back to full arm action up to an extended ¾ arm slot, creates a tough angle to the plate especially to lefthanded hitters, crossfire delivery with drop and drive actions, topped out at 64 mph with his fastball. Switch hitter, open stance with a deep hand set from the right side, uses a leg lift trigger and developing bat speed, all fields approach at the plate from the right side, sets up with a similar set from the left side with hand set by his ear, toe tap trigger with young timing, will improve barrel ability with refinements to load.
