2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Josh Wilson is a 2017 RHP with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Urbandale, IA who attends Valley HS. Athletic, lean build with good room for physical growth and added strength. Primary pitcher, works from overtop slot with some funkiness in delivery that adds to overall deception on the mound. Generates solid plane to the plate due to slot and height. Repeated his delivery well with slight drop and drive mechanics. Uses legs well in delivery. Worked consistently with FB/CB combo. FB worked in the 74-77 range mostly, topping out at 78, with solid life to the arm side, especially when located down in the strike zone. Consistently threw strikes, showed good ability to keep the ball down as well. CB showed very good depth with some bite, mostly in the high 60's, varying shape between 12/6 and 11/5. At bat, sets up with high hands and a slightly closed stance, then loads hands down and back and swings with a line drive plane. Lacks weight transfer at present. Max effort swing with a big stride. Worked out in the infield during drills, showing solid actions defensively with solid arm strength to go along with inconsistent footwork and a long release. Good student.
