Derek Neal is a 2017 C/1B with a 5-9 175 lb. frame from Goldsboro, NC who attends Rosewood. Medium frame with strong, athletic present build and good room to fill out. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.88 seconds. Hits with long stride into contact with toe tap trigger, rotational swing, subtle hand load to start, gets through the ball well and shows quality natural loft in swing, pull-field approach with present gap power and good projection for more with continued strength gains. Worked out defensively both at 1B and behind the plate. Sets low and balanced at C position, stays low through mechanics, compact arm action with some quickness, gains ground well and throws accurately to 2B, popped as low as 2.10 seconds. Clean actions and hands at 1B, fields cleanly, turns well with balance to throw to 2B, 1B velocity up to 68 MPH. Very good student.
