2016 Southeast Underclass Showcase
Luke Boynton is a 2019 1B/3B with a 6-5 220 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends Walton. XL frame with excellent strength and build throughout body. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.32 seconds. Sets up to hit from upright, open-based stance with high back elbow and high hands. Shows very quick hands into swing with obvious strength, deep hand load, simple stride forward, can drive it deep when squared up on time, potential for big home run threat with continued development. Worked out defensively at first base, moves well to ball and gets in good position to field, good transfer with good release across the diamond up to 79 MPH. Pitched as well, stands tall on backside and gathers well over rubber, low effort delivery throughout with slightly closed landing. Throws from extended high three quarters arm slot, generates good downhill plane, fastball worked 78-81 MPH with good life to arm side. Showed curveball with 11/5 shape and good depth; did a good job throwing it for strikes. Repeats well overall and pounded zone successfully. Named to 2016 Southeast Underclass Showcase Top Prospect List. Very good student.
