PG Grade: 8
Matt Mason is a 2007 RHP/1B/3B from Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia, with a strong 6'0'', 200 lb. frame. Mason throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed an a solid delivery. He stays balanced through his release, but does not get great extension and finish his pitches. He could instantly throw with more velocity by making this small adjustment. Mason gets good running action on his fastball that topped out at 84 mph. The late life on his pitches cause hitters to make inconsistent contact and he induces many ground balls. Mason mixes in a slow curveball at 69 mph. Defensively he has good arm strength at first base and moves well around the bag. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who attacks the ball with good bat speed. He has nice hand strength with projectable power. Mason is also a good student.
