Davis Payne is a 2017 1B/OF with a 6-4 225 lb. frame from Rexford, NY who attends Christian Brothers Academy. Extra-large, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, shows present strength and projects for more with room to fill out. Ran a 5.65 40-yard dash. Primary first baseman, moves well on feet and shows quickness coming off the bag, has a bounce to step and shows coordination in movements, clears hips well on pivot and has a quick transfer, short arm action with strength and carry to bag. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a crouched stance and slightly open stance, moves in on swing and closes well. Short swing for size and stays very quick and direct to ball. Able to generate nice bat speed through the ball with leverage at contact and shows strength off the barrel. Gap-to-gap ability with interesting jump coming off the barrel. Solid lefthanded bat to follow closely. Named to Northeast Indoor Top Prospect List. Very good student.
