Jacob Dexter is a 2008 left handed pitcher (OF - L/L) from Gilroy HS, residing in Gilroy, CA. He has a 6'1" 175 lb. frame with an athletic, welll-proportioned build. Dexter has a good pitcher's body and has room to continue to fill out. On the mound Dexter looks to have a future at the D1 level. He has a clean delivery and showed consistently good body control. His arm speed is still developing and as he gets stronger, will improve. He works with low effort and his stuff can kind of sneak up on hitters, particularly his fastball, which topped at 83 mph. Dexter gets good fastball movement and there is some sneaky late life. That late life comes from good extension at release point, which also gives his curveball late breaking. His curveball has rolling type action that is going to be able to start swings and get below bats. Dexter controlled his stuff well and also controlled the tempo of the game well. He does many things well on the mound and is a good follow prospect for the D1 level. Offensively he is a spray hitter and kept his hands inside the ball, showing the ability to use the whole field. In the outfield he showed good defensive feel and fundamentals and is an accurate thrower. For some small college programs he could be a two-way prospect.
