Mike (MJ) Rodriguez is a 2020 1B/C with a 6-0 245 lb. frame from Corpus Christi, TX who attends Veterans Memorial HS. Large, broad shouldered build with present physical strength to frame, incorporates it well into overall game. Primary first baseman, takes short steps coming off the bag to the ball, fields the ball out front and funnels into compact arm action; upper body dominant release, shows strength on throws with accuracy across, effort at release. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; limited shift through lower half moving into contact but does uncoil well. Utilizes a pull side approach and looks to lift and impact the baseball out front, full and loose swing plane. Physical strength plays and shows jump off the barrel when squared, gets extended out front, occasionally gets to front side early. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Oklahoma State.
