Austin Powell is a 2016 C with a 6-0 195 lb. frame from Star City, AR who attends Star City HS. Has a medium to large frame, athletic build, and sign of strength with more room to fill out physically as he continues to put on additional muscle. Posted a 7.25 second sixty yard dash. From behind the plate, has a low side saddle setup while receiving very well. Showed flexible actions and a quick release into throws, good arm strength up to 79 MPH while popping as low as 1.88 seconds. At the plate, right-handed hitter that starts with a squatted stance and a toe-tap trigger into load. Swings on a line drive swing plane with a middle of the field approach. Showed quick hands and good bat speed, ball comes strong off the barrel. Simple approach to hitting that works nicely. On the mound, has a compact, short arm circle through the back while throwing from a three-quarter arm slot. Solid arm strength on fastball up to 84 MPH, shows shape on slider. Tool set best suited for behind the plate. Excellent student. Named to 2016 National Indoor Top Prospect List.
