2005 So Cal Top Prospect
Johnston is a 6'1" 195 pound 2006 first baseman, outfielder, and lefthanded pitcher from Simi Valley, California who attends Oaks Christian High School. He has a thick stocky strong build with room to fill out still. As a pitcher, he throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and uses all of his body to throw. He is very tough on lefties because of his arm slot and his motion which is very busy and deceptive. He throws a very hard and tight slider at 65 mph. His fastball tops out at 76 mph and is very heavy as well. He throws a very good changeup to both right and left handers with very good action on it at 69 mph. Tim is a very good hitter as well. He has good bat speed and the ball jumps off his bat. He tends to like the ball inside as he is very short to the ball. He has an idea how to hit and uses minimal effort. During the workout, he threw 77 mph from the outfield and 76 mph from first base. He has a short compact arm action that does lack some carry to it.
