Billy Anderson -- Anderson is a primary position junior catcher from upstate Michigan. He’s obviously on the shorter side at 5-7 but has good strength throughout his body. Anderson’s best tool is his arm strength but that didn’t come out at all during the workout. Anderson threw 69 mph with the gear on and had pop times in the low 2.0’s. He pitched 2 innings, though, and gassed it up, touching 87-88 mph many times with a compact delivery and occasional explosive life on his fastball. Anderson’s 73-75 mph slurve was also an effective pitch. College coaches won’t generally rush to 5-7 right handers but if he was 6-1, most of the schools in the country would want him to pitch for them. The thing is, Anderson is a pretty good catcher and hitter, too. He’s got a quick arm and quick actions behind the plate. Anderson has a short, quick line drive stroke from the left side of the plate and showed the ability to work counts and spray balls all over the field. He’s a scrapper and hustler, too, and even tried to steal home during one game. Billy is a good student and his top level arm is going to create interest.
