Sharif Othman is a 2007 C/2B with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame from Riverside, CA, who attends Riverside Poly HS. Othman has a lean and athletic frame. Defensively he is quick behind the plate with arm strength and great pop times, best of 1.87. He gets great online carry on his throws through the second base bag. Othman has a quick transfer with, and receives the ball well with soft hands. He loves to throw and will throw behind runners. At the plate he is a switch hitter who hits from an open stance with bat speed from both sides. Othman uses a short stride with a leg lift trigger. He is aggressive with pitches in the zone, and he hits with authority and projectable power. Switch hitting catchers with power potential and catching skills are in high demand. Othman has a chance to be a dual threat catcher at the next level. He has great upside, and is an excellent student as well.
