Carlson is a young infielder who has the potential to become a very good offensive player down the road. He generates very good torque in his swing with good extension out front and could develop some big time power down the road as he fills out. Defensively, Carlson has a nice approach to the ball and shows soft hands and calm, easy actions on ground balls. His 7.51 speed probably means he’ll end up at third base later on but Carlson should have the bat to play that position and his glove and arm will definitely play there. Another thing that Carlson showed us was very good baseball instincts. He ran the bases well and wasn’t afraid to get dirty on defense. Shane is a good student.
