2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase   Aug 16, 2005
PG Grade: 8.5
Lyerly is a 6-0, 165 lb left handed hitting middle infielder from North Carolina. He had some of the smoothest and most advanced infield actions we've seen recently, with very good balance and footwork through the ball. Lyerly played second base very, very well during the showcase games but has plenty of arm strength to play shortstop at the next level as well. At the plate, Lyerly has a quick, efficient left handed swing with nice bat speed. He made solid line drive contact both in BP and during the games. He could develop some gap to gap power as he fills out. The only thing that Lyerly is missing now to be a top level middle infield prospect is pure quickness and speed. The actions, skills and tools are there in the other areas. Lyerly is also an interesting prospect on the mound. He has a quick arm and threw 84-85 mph consistently even after throwing from the infield for 2 days. His 65 mph curveball is a big sweeping off speed breaking ball that can be tightened up some. Very good college follow who is also a top level student.
