2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Andrew Reck is a 2006 C/P/UT with a 6'1'', 170 lb. frame from Marion, IA, who attends Linn Mar HS. Reck has a medium frame with a lean and athletic build and room to fill out. He has very good speed and athleticism for a catcher. Strong arm (80 mph) from behind the plate and his throws go through the second base bag with online carry and accuracy. Reck has a high release point that is different than many catchers, but he definitely gets the job done. He works well behind the plate, and looks like a solid catcher for the next level. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a spread stance with a line drive swing plane. There is no wasted motion in his swing and he makes consistent contact. Reck looks very comfortable in the box and loads his hands well. He has the bat speed to handle higher velocity pitchers and be a gap to gap hitter. On the mound he throws from an over the top arm slot with clean arm action. Reck stays balanced over the rubber and online in his delivery. He has present arm strength and has a chance to close games at the next level, but he should stay behind the plate. He is smart baseball player, and is a good student as well.
